My electrician says my new 8 kW system in Germany must cap feed-in at 60 %. Is that forever, and is it 60 % of the inverter? Could I just fit a bigger inverter?

It is 60 % of the installed module power (kWp), measured at the grid connection point, and it lasts only until a smart meter with a control box is installed and tested.

I want my mostly self-built system in Germany commissioned this year to lock in the current feed-in tariff. What legally counts as 'commissioning' under the EEG, and does the meter have to be in?

Commissioning is the first time the finished, permanently mounted system is switched on with all the equipment needed to make AC power. Producing a little power for testing is not the test the law uses.

QS-105Battery start-up, charging & protectionChecked

My Victron MultiPlus-II ESS suddenly charged the battery from the grid at 3 kW on a Sunday morning, with the SOC at 28 %. Why, and can I stop it or slow it down?

Look at the ESS minimum SOC first: ESS recharges from the grid when the SOC falls 5 % or more below it. In winter BatteryLife also raises the low limit by 5 % a day. Also check whether a scheduled charge or a BMS request was active.

I lowered my contracted grid power. Now the EV charger plus an iron and a heater trip the utility meter. Can my Deye hybrid cover the peak from the battery instead? And why did the battery go below my 30 % setting?

Yes. Deye's 'Grid Peak-shaving' caps grid import at a set value and covers the rest from PV and battery. The 30 % 'time of use' floor applies while the grid is there. In a grid outage the battery runs on to the shutdown limit.

Our new Deye 15 kW hybrid went bang the first time we switched on the PV strings and showed F21, F47 and later F55. Installation fault or inverter fault, and what should we check?

Don't keep restarting after a bang. Isolate it, check what the manual tells you to check (PV voltage, battery polarity, AC wiring), then have the installer or Deye inspect it. In this case Deye found a faulty power/driver board.

My customer's new system in Germany will get a smart meter soon. Someone told him he then gets nothing for the power he exports when exchange prices are negative. Is that true, and from when?

Yes for systems commissioned from 25 Feb 2025: the feed-in payment drops to zero in every quarter-hour with a negative day-ahead price. Under 100 kW it only starts after the end of the calendar year in which the smart meter (iMSys) is installed, and the lost time is partly added at the end of the 20 years.

A customer wants to wait for perovskite tandem panels because they are 'certified now'. Are tandem modules really certified and ready for normal rooftops?

Some are now certified to IEC 61215 and IEC 61730, but supply is still pilot or early volume, and the first warranties are shorter than for silicon. For a normal rooftop today, silicon is still the safe choice.
