How much air gap do I need between the modules and the roof?

The short answer
JinkoSolar requires at least 10 cm between the lower edge of the frame and the highest point of the mounting surface.

Plain explanation

The gap lets air cool the back of the module. JinkoSolar's 2026 installation manual sets a minimum of 10 cm between the lower frame edge and the highest point of the mounting surface; for special cases such as corrugated metal sheets, the installer sets the distance under local rules. The manual also asks installers to check that the design does not push the 98th-percentile module operating temperature above 70 °C. Other brands have their own manuals, so check yours.

Steps from the source

  1. Measure from the lower frame edge to the highest point of the roof surface
  2. Allow ≥ 10 cm (JinkoSolar) or what your module manual says
  3. In hot sites, check the expected module operating temperature against 70 °C
"the minimum distance between the lower edge of the module frame and the highest point of the mounting surface must be ≥ 10cm"
